  • Spot Light
These are the lights with a direct source of light. The key benefit of this is that it focuses on the target completely depending on the direction you place it in. Objects which are place closer to the spotlight will look brighter, all depending on the width of the cone from which light is emitted. The table lamp and streetlights are the perfect examples of it.
  • Volume Light
This is an important technique used for Lighting In 3D Animation. It emits the rays of light in every direction. The volume light comes in a particular shape and size. It gives an effect of smoke, fog, etc. and illuminates only the surfaces which are within the volume light.
  • Area Light
Area light emits directional rays of light from a set boundary which can either be in square or circle shape. It is appropriate for recreating the fluorescent lights which are in a particular shape. For instance, the rectangular light coming out from the fluorescent ceiling is a perfect example of area light.
  • Omni Light
This is also called as a point light, and it comes out from a very small source. It adds the filling effect to any 3D scene and can make it look like a candle or a small bulb.
